“It’s hard to throw stones if you are busy washing feet…”

Jesus’ mission was to serve. Matthew 20:28 clearly states this - “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

In every given opportunity, Jesus served. In every place his feet stepped, he showed up and served. He showed up to teach us that true ministers do not look for a place to shine, but they always look for ways to serve.

And this serving Jesus did was not selective- it was to all. See, the Bible tells us Jesus sat with sinners. Some of these very sinners were in his own circle but he never gave up on His assignment- “not to be served but to serve”. He knew he would be betrayed and denied by his own disciples yet he stilled loved, he stilled served, he stilled washed their dirty feet.

It would have been right for him to abandon everyone who never believed He was truly the Son of God and make them pay but He chose surrender, He chose the cross.

Because walking like Jesus requires a different pair of lens. New eyes and a new heart. Walking with Jesus requires you to go the high road- which is a road less traveled. A road with many Pharisees, Judas, Peters and lots of dirt.

That dust will make you either resent ministry and the people in it or the dirt will remind you of humility and what ministry is really about- serving.

The world seeks influencers. God seeks a servant heart.

When we are tempted to throw the stones back and get even…remember to see people through His eyes. Remember the calling. Remember Jesus washed their dirty feet.

Do not stop serving the Lord because people stop serving you. Remember, this is not about you. It’s about Him.

Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.

Colossians 3:23-24 AMP

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”
